Landscape Gardener (Berthoud)

The Landscape Gardener I is an entry-level position that has been specially trained to operate specialized equipment and/or to perform specific tasks relative to the landscape operations in the Heron Lakes Community. The area of work is the club house, maintenance facility, parkways, and areas surrounding the golf course. This is a seasonal job running from March 1st to around Thanksgiving.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
 Clean machinery after each use.
 Inspect all machines and report any deficiencies to the Equipment Manager.
 Perform other functions and routine landscape operations activities as directed by the Landscape Superintendent, Landscape Intern, Director of Golf Course Maintenance, Assistant Superintendent I, Assistant Superintendent II, and Landscape Foreman.
 Be thoroughly trained in the proper procedures required to perform each task before performing each task. Follow the guidelines in the Golf Course Maintenance Operations Manual for each specific task.
 Perform specific tasks relative to Landscape Gardener I, including:
o Rotary mower operations.
o String trim around trees, shrubs, posts, etc.
o Edge, sidewalks, landscape beds, etc.
o Proper pruning techniques.
o Sod laying.
o Utility vehicle operation.
o Blower operations.
o Manual weeding.
o Hand tool operations.
o RotoTiller operation.
o Mulch distribution.
o Fertilizer and pesticide applications
o Seed, straw, and crimp native areas as needed.
 Required to wear personal protective clothing and/or use protective equipment to comply with established safety operating standards.

PHYSICAL, MENTAL & VISUAL SKILLS
 Good organizational skills.
 Ability to use logical or scientific thinking to solve problems.
 Ability to carry out written or verbal instructions independently.
 Ability to visually inspect club house and maintenance facility grounds.
 Ability to perform heavy physical work, may be required to lift up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly, performing such activities as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting and grasping for up to five (5) hours without sitting.

EDUCATION & WORK-RELATED EXPERIENCE
High school education or equivalent preferred. The ability to understand and follow directions and operate landscape and golf course machinery, plus the successful completion of the Landscape Gardener I training program. Be 18 years old and be able to operate a motor vehicle.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Works primarily outdoors overseeing grounds. Potential exposure to inclement weather, equipment movement hazards and dangerous chemicals/solvents, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers if proper safety procedures are not followed.
